Father of 3D-Printing (stereolithography)

Name: Chuck Hull
Born: 12 may 1939
Education: BS in engineering physics from the university of Colorado in 1961

Where did the idea came?

Chuck Hull is the father of 3D-Printing. He is the co-founder, executive vice president and Chief technology officer of 3D systems. What motivated him towards the 3D printing is how to prototype plastic porch. Because it was a tedious process which included coming up with the design, special tools were required and the moulder to make plastic porch.
He worked in a company called Ultra Violet product where the company produce all kinds of products. One of the products was curing the UV curable materials which is used for coating for paper and furniture. So he thought if he could print lots of these layers, plastic porch can be developed, that was the general basic idea of 3D printing.

What did he do for the solution to a problem called 3D Printing.

He set-up the small lab with the idea of 3D Printing. He constantly worked in printing the layers  and it kept looking better until he finally printed the first part late at night.

First part from the 3D printer:

He wanted to print a simple thing that is easy to program but has some use of it. So he printed a cup first. It looked like an eye cup that eye doctor will use to wash an eye.

Entrepreneurship:

He wanted to be a entrepreneur. So he spend lots of time at MIT Enterprise Forum which thought him what it takes to set-up and run a business. At that time the economic wasn't in a good form and Ultra Violet product company was kind of struggling so the company couldn't finance to publish the 3D Printer. So he got a deal from the president of the Ultra Violet company to establish a new company and they'll licencee the property.
When he made a 3D system company he included one of the broad members called Avi Reichental as a partner of the company. He already had a business but sold it so Chuck Hull thought it'll be good idea to include some one who had experienced from the past.

So to conclude I will certainly say he is one of the inspiring persona. It's never easy to invent something new that nobody have tried. It takes up a lot of hard work and courage to face the failures before seeing the success which not many people have. He did changed the world by inventing one of the most extraordinary printer which contributed in making peoples life easy and fast manufacturing etc.
